A seed packet contains all the information a good gardener needs to properly cultivate that variety of plant. It typically includes the depth the seed should be sown, the spacing between plants and rows, and even the time of year when the seeds should be started. The seed packet might also contain information on germination rates, the amount of sun needed, or even a little information on the characteristics of the mature plant.
The design of the seed packets from our friends at Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds focus on amazing photos of the variety at maturity. When a photo is unavailable, they use artistic renderings instead.
But seed packets are often more than just data. Seed packets have the potential to be unique pieces of artwork that tell a story about the history of that particular variety. Many heirloom seeds have a history that dates back hundreds or even thousands of years. Gardeners grow these varieties for a number of reasons and the historical significance is one of those.
Pick a favorite variety and custom design an artistic seed packet for it that conveys its history in addition to the essential information gardeners will need about planting it.
