Advanced Lesson 1.3 Will These Grow?

Lesson Overview

Seeds don't need much to germinate but moisture is imperative. Does it matter what the source of moisture is? In this lesson, students will answer that very question with a little experimentation.

Method

Seeds germinate under the influence of moisture, proper temperature, and in some cases light. Temperature is simple to regulate but what is the best source of moisture to coax those seeds out of dormancy?

Test germination rates of a single variety using different moisture sources. Be creative and consider unconventional sources like milk, pool water, soda, vinegar or any number of other options. Record the germination rates to determine if the source of moisture matters or not. Discuss the results.
