Lesson Overview

It has taken a mere 100 years for humans to destroy as much as 96% of the plant diversity on earth. In this lesson, students are tasked with taking ownership of the issue and asked to work for a solution in their community.

Take responsibility for preserving and protecting plant diversity in your community. Discuss the implications of lost plant diversity in our food system.

What are the risks? And how might we reintroduce more varieties? What can be done at your Lab?

Have the students draft a plan for restoring greater crop plant diversity in your area using the Lab’s resources.
