Planning for Planting
Lesson Overview
Method
Create an annual budget for the Lab using the Succession Plan developed in the Intermediate Lesson. This can be done individually by each student, in small groups, or together as a class.
Factor in all projected costs, expected germination rates, losses from disease or pests, and balance that against projected earnings from harvest.
What should the Lab’s annual planting budget be? Would the Lab be profitable if it were to sell 100% of the harvests? How could profitability be improved in the Lab? How could costs be reduced?
