Lesson Overview

It's better to be a jack-of-all-trades as they say. In this lesson, students will take that approach to composting by employing multiple methods around campus to determine how much impact it has collectively on the waste stream leaving the school.

Method

Create a campus-wide plan to incorporate as many composting methods as possible including hugelkultur mounds, trenches, thermophilic piles, sheet composting, and static piles. Which breaks down inputs the quickest?

Which method is most scalable? What impact would this have on the amount of waste that leaves your campus each year heading to the landfill?
