Lesson Overview

Farmers produce a lot of different products and for some farmers the star is the red wiggler worm. This lesson asks students to discuss exactly what it takes to become a worm farmer.

Method

Everyone has a dream job. We all talked as children about what we wanted to be when we grew up. And naturally that is a moving target influenced by life experiences and exposure to new things. What if you wanted to become a worm farmer? What would that take?

Discuss the systems that would allow you to scale the production of the worm farm.

Calculate the revenue potential from selling worms to gardeners and farmers based on current market costs. Where would you source inputs to feed the worms and how much would you need each year to support your business?
