Lesson Overview

Students need to understand the impact that each player has on the composting process to truly understand the dynamics of the process. This lesson allows them to demonstrate their understanding of the composting process with an artist rendering of sorts.

Method

Much like players on a football field, the little critters found in the compost pile all play a specific role. Understanding the role that each plays will provide a better understanding of the health and vitality of the composting process.

Create a rendering of the soil food web that reflects the relationship between the microorganisms and insects found in the compost pile. Your rendering can be an artistic rendering by hand or drafted using a computer program.
