Lesson Overview

Every school allows nutrients to be trucked out the door to the landfill only to have to buy fertilizers and soil amendments for the trees on campus. This lesson challenges students to measure the impact of this imbalance.

Method

Imagine the benefit to your school’s trees, garden beds, raised planters, shrubs, bushes, and grass if you were able to recapture all the nutrients from your food and yard waste streams and apply them as amendments to build healthier soil. Just imagine it!
