Buckets, Barrels and Ponds
Lesson Overview
Method
Many farmers use retention ponds to collect and save rainwater for use with crops and livestock. Wetlands can also be used as biological filters providing a viable ecosystem for wildlife including birds, amphibians, insects, and fish.
Discuss the advantages and challenges of creating a pond or wetlands on your campus.
How would wildlife be affected? Could it serve all your water needs in the Lab? Where might it be located on campus and what is the estimated collection potential?
