A Matter of Degrees
Lesson Overview
Teach the Teacher
Method
Using an outdoor growing space, have the students devise a method for mapping and recording soil temperatures to determine how temperature changes across a given landscape during the day.
Compare that data against other relevant data such as ambient temperature, sun exposure, moisture levels, and wind speed in segments of the overall space.
Using this data, determine how these findings will change the garden plan going forward. What can the Lab do to achieve a specific desired outcome – cooler soil, more shade, less wind, higher moisture content – that will positively affect the production of the space?
